It has been two weeks since Juan Guaido, the head of the young National Assembly, declared himself Venezuela's acting president, sparking a coordinated effort to overthrow the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans marched and demonstrated for it. More than 30 countries, mainly in the United States and Europe, have recognized Mr Guaido's presumptive government, arguing that Mr Maduro's second term, which began last month, was the result of electoral fraud. The United States has imposed sanctions on Venezuela's oil industry.
