Colombian peace court rejects U.S. extradition request

Jesús Santrich will become a member of the Colombian Congress in July 2018. A former FARC commander, he was chosen as one of ten congressional seats promised to the guerrillas in a peace deal to fill the country's 50-year armed conflict. But Mr Santridge, whose real name is Seuxis Hernández Solarte, could not be sworn in because he was arrested last April as part of a covert US-led operation. An indictment in New York court accused him of conspiring to ship 10,000 kilograms of cocaine to the United States. The Justice Department has requested his extradition.
